The West Midlands Growth Plan sets out a bold vision to transform the region’s economy over the next decade, with real action starting now and big outcomes by 2035.

Our vision is to increase residents’ living standards across all parts of the West Midlands. This means bringing more people into good quality jobs, increasing the productivity of the region’s economy and reducing poverty and deprivation, while making further progress towards our journey to net zero.

Hear about it from the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker.

Our Partnership

“The Growth Plan is ambitious and forward-looking, with a strong emphasis on innovation, productivity, and cluster development. However, there are several areas where the needs and realities of small businesses could be more explicitly addressed. This marks an exciting time for the West Midlands, where the FSB is keen to continue to ensure benefits are felt by our small businesses.”

Linsey Luke, Deputy Head of English Regions, The Federation of Small Businesses

“We welcome the engagement that is being undertaken by the WMCA in preparing its Strategic Growth Plan. The collaborative approach in preparing the Growth Plan and setting a clear vision and objectives is very much welcomed. A clear investment and growth strategy is vital to the economic growth of the region. As we have set out in our formal response, there is often clear and strong occupier and investor demand from inward investors, the delivery of which can be greatly aided by a clear strategy that supports the necessary scale and locational requirements of investors.”

Victoria Burgin, Head of Office, Director, Property Management Birmingham, Savills

“Following the launch of the UK’s Industrial Strategy at MIRA Tech Park, we are pleased to see the West Midlands Growth Plan prioritise high potential clusters like ours through a business-led development programme. Critical to the success of the region is understanding assets that benefit the WMCA administrative geography whilst laying outside of it and we are pleased to be exploring a strategic partnership with the Mayor. This partnership will support our location just outside Nuneaton to provide high value employment for people living in the West Midlands and bring new supply chain opportunities as we continue to attract innovative global-leading businesses developing next generation technologies and work together to enable their growth into a pipeline of new manufacturing.”

Tim Nathan - Managing Director, MIRA Tech Park

“This Growth Plan shows the West Midlands is serious about unlocking its full potential. With unmatched connectivity, a diverse and youthful workforce, and a cost base that supports global reach, the region is primed for business success. We’re proud to be part of a community that’s not only ambitious but honest about its challenges and committed to inclusive, sustainable growth.”

The Local Growth Plan gives us the confidence to continue expanding our presence and partnerships here, knowing regional leadership has a clear and ambitious vision for economic transformation. It should also encourage West Midlands businesses to double down on innovation and investment to protect and grow the region’s competitive edge in advanced manufacturing, clean tech and health.”

“The Plan sets out achievable goals, and the extensive consultation period has enabled private businesses, such as ourselves, to voice the challenges and barriers to growth. The key now will be that long-term engagement across the public sector, business and academia, to solidify the Plan and deliver. There is a real opportunity here to make a difference as long as we work as one.”
