Why it matters

This Growth Plan sets out a bold vision for inclusive growth but achieving this isn’t just about what we do – it’s also about how we tell our story and bring everyone along with us. Our region’s story and narrative shape investment decisions, attract talent and most importantly, build pride for our residents. Our diversity, scale, people, history, creativity and connectivity are our distinctive strengths and foundations for growth. From the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup, to our thriving music and performance venues, community spaces and venues, we’re already showing that the West Midlands is a place to attract and retain talent.

We’re stronger together. Institutions, forums and networks foster joint working between organisations – these are the tangible partnerships that will unlock our Growth Plan ambitions, together. Internationally, evidence shows that strong local and regional government institutions that are well-integrated generally have better economic outcomes.

What change will feel like for residents and businesses

Effective institutions are the foundation of our Growth Plan. They enable residents to easily access support; businesses to grow, innovate and upskill their staff; and investors to land their projects in the West Midlands, creating jobs and supply chain opportunities.

Our Growth Plan sets out the West Midlands’ vision and priorities, but the future will be shaped by the ideas, entrepreneurship and aspirations of our people. A bold new West Midlands story is unfolding, and the people in the region want to play their part in our economic transformation.
