Business – Leadership and Investment

Why it matters

Wages and living standards in the West Midlands rely on business productivity, which depends on strong leadership and investment. Higher productivity creates better jobs, boosts incomes, and reduces poverty. Despite a strong enterprise spirit, fewer firms survive than the national average. Each year, around 370 businesses show high growth, with 1,100 more showing strong potential. Unlocking this growth is crucial. Many firms operate lower in value chains, limiting productivity. Strong leadership drives innovation and investment in staff. Expanding access to flexible, high-quality management training is vital to support business growth, close economic gaps, and improve regional prosperity and social mobility.
